P-38. Got a little motion bluring with .6 sec exposures. 269.6 Megapixels. 28800 x 9360 pixels. 80 x 26 inches.
B-25. Oh, Darn. Just realized I sampled too far right... :) 64.0 Megapixels. 13680 x 4680 pixels. 38 x 13 inches.
124.2 Megapixels. 18000 x 6900 pixels. 50 x 19.2 inches.
F-86.
F-86. 108.9 Megapixels. 16500 x 6600 pixels. 45.8 x 18.3 inches.
F-86. Magic of multiple shots... Totally clean images with or without the pilots. 108.9 Megapixels. 16500 x 6600 pixels. 45.8 x 18.3 inches.
P-38s. My first real high dynamic range image. 3 separate exposures at 2 stops apart. The human eye is amazing. Cameras and monitors are really limited! Most of my images turn out well processed as 12 bit RAW -> 16 bit TIFF -> Stitch output at 16 bit TIFF -> Photoshop shadow and highlight adjust to get nice contrast, but can still see details. Then I convert to 8 bit to add the text at the bottom and print. This one needed a little more range, but it makes it look a bit flat. I think an upgrade to Photoshop CS with better level control via curve adjustment is in order if I do more like this. I need an image stabilized lens first, then at least a 24" wide format printer. :) 62.2 Megapixels. 14400 x 4320 pixels. 40 x 12 inches.
P-38. This is what got me started on this super high resolution kick. Handheld. I was just a little too close to get the whole airplane in view with my 70-300 mm lens, so I thought I'd see how it would work to stitch it like a panorama, just not all the way around. Turned out fantastic and got me hooked. I now think of 30 Megapixels as my lower limit. :) 33.2 Megapixels. 9050 x 3667 pixels. 25.1 x 10.2 inches. I printed this as a 35 x 13 inch print and it looks great. Had to make my own frame due to odd size.
P-40 and PT-17. If your monitor is calibrated, the sky is cyan, the awning is deep blue, and the PT-17 is RED. Absolutely wonderful, bright, vibrant red. This image is where I discovered Photoshop Elements will only open a 30000 pixel TIFF. My first full resolution stitch was 32000 or so. Only took about 6 hours overnight. :) After it wouldn't open I realized I should probably size it for my printer at 400 dpi, 13 in wide, 44 in max length due to darn printer driver limits. I have since learned that 360 dpi is optimal due to it being integer value of 5660x2880 dpi print head resolution. Print driver does not have to resample it so it's faster. 110.5 Megapixels. 16800 x 6575 pixels. 46.7 x 18.2 inches. Full resolution could be 96 x 37 inches at 360 dpi without having to up res the image much at all. Absolutely amazing. I need a large format printer!!! Epson's just announced 60" wide K3 ink model would be perfect. Only need $15,000 too. And a new house with a blank wall that's 13 feet wide.
P-51. Challenging to get prop blur and another 7-8 shots before they start moving. Once they move it won't stitch well. 29.5 Megapixels. 6840 x 4320 pixels. 19 x 12 inches.
P-51s Handheld. Just one pass with 70mm lens works OK handheld if I'm careful. You can see it has more noise because I had to up the ISO to get shutter speed so it won't blur, but with aperture closed enough to get a good depth of field. Tripod with pano head allows me go use ISO 100 instead of 800 like this. 29.5 Megapixels. 8195 x 3600 pixels. 22.8 x 10 inches.
SNJ-5 Texan. Beautiful Blue Sky and Airplane. Corsair in the background. 37.3 Megapixels. 8640 x 4320 pixels. 24 x 13 inches.
Spitfire. Open hangar door had too much light spill to get a good shot. Hoping it will be out of hangar sometime soon to get a better image. 69.1 Megapixels. 14400 x 4800 pixels. 40 x 13.3 inches.
